Local Governments' Energy Roadmap Panel Held at ICCI 2025
The "Energy Roadmap for Local Governments" panel, moderated by our General Manager Dr. Yüksel Yalçın, was held with broad participation as part of the ICCI International Energy Fair and Congress.
The panel included Erhan Uzunoğlu, General Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors of İzmir Energy Inc.; Erman Aydıngün, General Manager of Bursa Energy Inc.; Atınç Aksoy, General Manager of Manisa Energy Inc.; Fatih Peker, Board Member of Denizli Energy Inc.; Burçin Bozkurt, Head of the R&D Department at Ankara ASKİ; and Nilgün Erkmen Göktaş, Head of the Climate Change and Zero Waste Department at Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality. They shared valuable insights into the energy vision of metropolitan municipalities.
The panel evaluated the use of renewable energy sources such as solar power plants (SPP), wind power plants (WPP), geothermal power plants (GPP), hydroelectric power plants (HPP), and biomass power plants (BPP) to enable local governments to become self-generating entities. Additionally, strategies for increasing energy efficiency in many different areas, from transportation and lighting to power stations and smart city infrastructure, were discussed.
The panel's opening remarks were delivered by our General Manager, Dr. Yüksel Yalçın stated the following:
“In the face of the global climate crisis, local governments need to take a more active role in energy production and management processes. Today, we are discussing not only renewable energy projects but also energy efficiency, climate action plans, and inter-institutional collaboration models within the framework of the smart city vision. Our goal is to bring together collective wisdom and experience to build sustainable, self-generating, and resilient cities.”
The panel also discussed in detail important topics such as expanding renewable energy projects, developing energy efficiency-focused infrastructure projects, Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP) implementations, sharing technical knowledge and product experience, supply chain management, and increasing academic and sectoral collaborations.
The panelists provided information about energy projects underway in their respective municipalities and their future goals, while also sharing their valuable experiences with the attendees regarding the energy transformation process of local governments. The session, enriched by questions and contributions from participants, made significant contributions to the sharing of experiences and the development of a common vision among metropolitan municipalities.
As Istanbul Energy Inc., we would like to thank all our speakers, participants, and audience members who contributed to the organization of the panel; we will continue to support the energy transition in local governments.
